ORIGINAL CONTEMPORARY CHINESE MUSIC THEATRE
An enigmatic real-life affair between an opera singing spy and his diplomat lover caused a sensational political scandal in the 1980s and in time inspired SummerWorks’ first-ever Chinese language production – a music theatre creation by Macau playwright Wong Teng Chi (Amsterdam Études), director Johnny Tam and Toronto composer Njo Kong Kie (Infinity, knotty together, La Señorita Mundo). Stylistically varied and emotionally rich, the score draws inspiration from opera, musicals and vintage pop from both East and West. Featuring performers from Taiwan and Macau, this evocative production will stir your heart with its humanity and deep propensity for understanding. Come revel in the beauty, passion and rich storytelling of contemporary Chinese music theatre. |
